Family therapy, conflict mediation, couples therapy and adult care — guided by the wisdom of a lifetime devoted to people. At the office in Copacabana, in English and Portuguese.
A lifetime devoted to listening, welcoming and caring for people — across Brazil, the United States and Europe.
I'm Dr. Maria Izabel Cunha, a clinical psychologist with more than fifty years of experience. I have devoted my career to supporting families, couples and individuals through life's many seasons — always with attentive listening, respect and depth.
My training includes a degree and master's from USP and PUC, a master's and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison — graduating first in my doctoral class — and specializations in family therapy and conflict mediation at the Sorbonne and in Paris. As an American fluent in English, I welcome both Brazilian and international clients with ease.
Each story is welcomed uniquely, at the pace of the person who arrives.
My main calling. A space to improve communication, work through conflict and strengthen the bonds between those who love each other.
Guidance through the hardest conversations — between parents, children and partners — toward understanding and a path forward for everyone.
A place to rediscover dialogue, navigate crises and rebuild the relationship with care and honesty.
Anxiety, self-esteem, grief, life transitions — a safe space to understand yourself better and move forward.
I listen to each story with the same devotion one brings to a great work of art — with time, attention and reverence for the person who lived it.
For 30 years in Madison, Wisconsin, I served as clinical assistant to Dr. Allyn Roberts — my mentor and dear friend. Countless hours of co-therapy at his side shaped, forever, the way I care for people.
An American fluent in English, I see clients at my office in Copacabana in both English and Portuguese. A rare comfort for those seeking therapy in their own language — with the depth of someone who has lived between two countries.
